New CILA Resource: Country Conditions Compilation – Conditions for Children & Youth in Seven Countries with Gender-Based Violence

The information in this blog post is current as of Wednesday, May 5, 2026.

CILA is excited to announce that our recent legal intern, Caroline Ferree, created a new resource for advocates working on gender-based violence (GBV) asylum claims. This resource provides a starting point for documenting country conditions in seven countries (Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, Nicaragua, and Ethiopia) relating to gender-based violence. GBV is based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or other similar related characteristics. GBV encompasses sexual, physical, psychological, and economic harm. GBV manifests in multiple forms, including but not limited to, domestic violence, sexual violence, femicide (the killing of women and girls on account of their gender), child marriage, forced marriage, forced pregnancy or motherhood, female genital cutting (FGC), and so-called “honor crimes.” This 21-page resource, divided by country, features relevant quotes from select articles and reports about issues relating to GBV. This resource is intended to be a helpful starting point for advocates’ research on the issues.
