Webinar Description:
With the national celebration of pro bono in October, the ABA Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) invites you to a complimentary 75-minute CLE webinar focused on pro bono advocacy for unaccompanied immigrant children—often unrepresented and needing an attorney by their side in immigration court.
This webinar will cover information about unaccompanied children and the distinct issues in their immigration cases—along with a broad overview about the common forms of legal relief associated with their cases. Speakers will present on the need for pro bono and volunteer legal representation for immigrant children—discussing the statistics, the impact, and the consequences of the gap in legal representation for this vulnerable population.
The webinar will also include a panel-style discussion, where experienced practitioners will speak to the impact of legal pro bono representation in children’s cases and share their experiences working with immigrant youth and pro bono volunteers.
Presenters from CILA and CCDC will also share nationwide and remote pro bono opportunities from CILA’s platform—Pro Bono Matters for Children Facing Deportation—for attorneys and law students interested in getting involved to help immigrant youth.
This presentation is geared toward attorneys interested in taking on a pro bono immigration case, practitioners working on a pro bono case, and practitioners new to children’s immigration law. Nonprofit attorneys, legal staff, and social services staff working with immigrant youth who want to learn more about children’s immigration law are also welcome to attend!
Speakers will include:
- Diana Tafur, IRC, Senior Technical Advisor
- Marisa Tillman, CCDC, Staff Attorney
- Sachika Denham-Hand, CILA, Staff Attorney
