Webinar Description:
The ABA Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) invites you to a complimentary 75 minute CLE webinar to learn more about gang-related asylum claims, the current conditions in Central America, and pro bono opportunities to get involved in children’s asylum cases. The webinar will include a presentation from Dr. Thomas Boerman, an expert in gangs and societal violence, on the current conditions in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Presenters from CILA and the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) will also share nationwide and remote opportunities from CILA’s platform—Pro Bono Matters for Children Facing Deportation—for attorneys and law students interested in helping immigrant youth. In addition, CILA will provide some background information about gang-related asylum claims and country conditions resources.

This webinar is geared toward anyone new to working on children’s immigration cases or interested in volunteering to help in a pro bono asylum case. Nonprofit attorneys, legal staff, and social services staff working with immigrant youth who want to learn more about gang-related asylum claims or the current country conditions are also welcome to attend.

Speakers will include:
• Thomas Boerman, Ph. D.
• Delaney Swink, NMILC, Program Manager – Pro Bono Engagement, Internships & Donor Relations
• Sarena Bhatia, CILA, Senior Staff Attorney
• Amelia Friedman, CILA, Staff Attorney
