Webinar Description:

The ABA Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) invites you to join us at a webinar to learn more about the unique issues in immigration law that unaccompanied children currently face and how pro bono representation can make a significant impact in these youth’s lives.

This training is for pro bono attorneys, law students interested in volunteering, those new to children’s immigration, and those interested in pro bono work—though others are welcome to attend.

The webinar will cover background information for understanding unaccompanied immigrant children, how recent policy changes are affecting these immigrant youth, the heightened importance of pro bono representation given the current changes, and the various ways that pro bono attorneys and volunteers can help with their immigration cases. Our guest speaker, Paloma Rydz, a senior immigration attorney, will share some of her experiences collaborating with pro bono attorneys on children’s immigration cases and ways to get involved with her organization. CILA will provide an overview of our pro bono platform, Pro Bono Matters for Children Facing Deportation, so interested individuals can learn more about how to get involved in immigration cases.

Speakers will include:

  • Sachika Denham-Hand, Staff Attorney, CILA
  • Paloma Rydz, Senior Staff Attorney, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, St. Frances Cabrini Center for Legal Assistance
  • Laura Egan, Managing Attorney, CILA
  • Amelia Friedman, Senior Staff Attorney, CILA
