New CILA Resource: Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) Manual for New York Practitioners

The ABA Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA), in partnership with The Door, is very pleased to share this new manual for practitioners in New York seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). CILA is grateful to authors Beth D. Baltimore, Gillian Menza, and Selene Nafisi for all their work drafting this manual. The Door also sought input from local practitioners when drafting this manual and appreciate their support.

This 101-page manual and accompanying appendices is intended for practitioners in the field and pro bono attorneys working on behalf of immigrant youth. It provides a comprehensive step-by-step overview of how to obtain an order in New York state court with SIJS determinations. The manual also contains an overview of the applicable state and federal laws, guidance on the procedural requirements, and practice tips. The Appendices, uploaded as a separate file on CILA’s website, include sample documents for filings in New York state court.

This resource is the fourth in CILA’s ongoing series of manuals covering SIJS state court practice in select states. The other manuals are available here:
