New Resource: Explainer on the Visa Bulletin for SIJS Advocates

The End SIJS Backlog Coalition, in partnership with CILA, ILRC, and NIPNLG, published an explainer titled "Breaking Down the Visa Bulletin: What SIJS Advocates Need to Know." Youth with special immigrant juvenile status (SIJS) must wait for a visa to become available before they can seek lawful permanent residence. The visa bulletin is used to track visa availability. This resource addresses common questions and myths about the visa bulletin, how to talk to clients about the backlog of visas for youth with SIJS, and how both advocates and directly impacted youth can get involved in our work to end the backlog and its harms.

Advocates can join the End SIJS Backlog Coalition by signing up at https://www.sijsbacklog.com/join-us. Youth can join the Coalition by signing up here and also has youth resource pages in English and Spanish.

The practice advisory is available here. A free CILA account is needed to access the resource. Sign up for an account here. Contact CILA at cila@abacila.org if you need additional assistance accessing this resource.
