It’s that time of year when backpacks and school supplies are in need for children and youth headed into the school year. Help children have the tools they need to start their school year off well—to help build their confidence and so they are prepared to learn.
Look for organizations in your community as an easy way to help. The Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) is based in Houston, Texas, and some organizations in Houston are seeking school supplies to support their clients. Consider getting involved and donating to their efforts.
Here are a few Houston-based organizations that are collecting school supplies.
- Galveston Houston Immigrant Representation Project (GHIRP): GHIRP is distributing backpacks with schools supplies to some clients in need, and more donations are needed. Contact GHIRP’s Social Services Department at austraz@ghirp.org to learn more about the need for school supplies.
- Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston: View information about their school drive here.
- YMCA of Greater Houston Operation Backpack: View information here.
- The Alliance: View information here on their back to school drive, health fair, and business expo happening on August 12.
Drives are happening across the nation. It’s an easy way and a great time to get connected with your community and to help children get prepared for school.
