CILA is very excited to share a new resource, the CILA Pro Bono Guide! The 101-page Guide will help attorneys working with children and youth in immigration cases. It covers a range of topics and will help attorneys sharpen their skills for effective representation, including working with unaccompanied children, trauma-informed lawyering, and interviewing tips and strategies. The Guide also provides a wealth of information on common forms of legal relief.
The Guide is nationally applicable in scope. The audience predominantly focuses on pro bono attorneys, but we also think the resource will be helpful to new legal service provider attorneys entering the field. CILA’s goals for the project were to create an accessible, organized, and clear resource. The Guide covers the basics of necessary skills and substantive law in children’s cases, while also providing practical tips and links throughout to learn more. CILA intends to update the Guide annually.
The Guide is available on the CILA website on our Online Library and Creative Pro Bono Models webpages.
